Why You Keep Second-Guessing Yourself (And How to Stop)
Learn why you second-guess yourself and how to break free from analysis paralysis
The Mental Tug-of-War
You stand at a crossroads, analyzing every possible outcome, weighing the pros and cons, yet feeling utterly stuck. The more you think about it, the harder it becomes to decide. Sound familiar?
Many of us struggle with second-guessing ourselves, constantly caught between logic and intuition. We overanalyze, delay decisions, and seek external validation, afraid of making the "wrong" choice. But this habit erodes our self-trust and disconnects us from our inner wisdom.
For a limited time, I’m giving you free access to my 9-Minute Reclaim Your Power Meditation. It’s designed to quiet overthinking and help you trust yourself again.
Why We Over-Intellectualize & Distrust Intuition
Cultural Conditioning
From an early age, we are taught to prioritize logic over feeling, facts over gut instincts. Society rewards those who can rationalize and defend their choices with data, but it often dismisses intuitive knowing as unreliable or unscientific.
I often had my family dismiss my intuition. They would ask, "How could you know that?" or tell me there was no way I could be right. They assumed I just thought I was better than everyone else because I spoke with confidence. These little judgments shaped how they treated me, making me feel like I should hide myself and my intuition. But it wasn’t their fault—these beliefs had been passed down to them, just as they had been passed down to me.
Over time, the voice of our oppressors becomes our own inner voice. We no longer need someone looking over our shoulder, doubting us—because that person now lives rent-free inside our own heads, naysaying every desire and dream that would pull us away from the societal norm. Until every intuitive impulse we have is silenced, and we can no longer create.
Fear of Mistakes & Failure
Perfectionism makes us hesitant to take action unless we are certain it’s the "right" decision. We fear making mistakes so much that we’d rather stay in limbo than risk regret. Have you ever spent hours—or even days—ruminating over a decision, only to realize later that either option would have been fine?
I have spent so much time overthinking my life, believing that thinking was action. In today’s hustle culture, planning and doing background work can become the busywork that keeps us stuck, even when we want to succeed. It’s the stuff that feels safe behind the scenes, keeping our dreams private—so we don’t have to risk being seen or, worse, failing in public. The fear of even trying, of what others might think about our audacity to step outside the herd, has chased me for years. I thought I was taking massive action, yet all I was really doing was overthinking.
Trauma & Self-Doubt
If you grew up in an environment where your emotions were dismissed or your choices were frequently questioned, it makes sense that you’d struggle to trust yourself. Hyper-vigilance—common in trauma survivors—leads to overanalyzing as a defense mechanism.
Self-doubt has plagued me for years. I’ve had the ability to breathe unending belief into others’ dreams and desires, yet I have never been able to give that same gift to myself. Inside my own mind, I tear down every idea before I even get started. I’m afraid of what others might think of my ideas or how they might react to what I post. I tell myself I need more training, more certificates, more knowledge before I can teach—never realizing that teaching is how I learn.
All of these thoughts reinforce my self-doubt, and they stem from my own inner critic, not anything outside of myself. I wouldn’t even let myself try, out of fear of failing—especially failing in public.
Over-Reliance on Logic
Rationality is essential, but when we use it to control uncertainty, we disconnect from embodied wisdom. The mind tries to map out every possible outcome, yet true clarity often comes from stillness and listening inward.
What was a time you ignored a gut feeling, only to later wish you had followed it?

How This Pattern Harms You
Can't make decisions: You hesitate, delay, and overanalyze instead of taking action.
Disconnection from Your Body: You suppress intuitive nudges, losing touch with your inner signals.
Increased Anxiety & Fatigue: The constant thinking loop wears you down.
Self-Doubt Reinforcement: The more you second-guess, the harder it becomes to trust yourself.
The Path to Rebuilding Self-Trust
1. Recognize Overthinking in the Moment
Notice when you’re stuck in analysis loops, seeking reassurance, or delaying action. Pause and name it: "I’m overthinking because I fear making the wrong choice."
2. Practice Small Acts of Intuitive Trust
Start with low-stakes decisions—what to eat, which book to read. Instead of overanalyzing, tune into what feels good in your body.
3. Reframe Mistakes as Learning, Not Failure
Every choice offers growth. Look back at times when a "wrong" decision led to an unexpected, positive outcome.
4. Use Mind-Body Integration Practices
Meditation & Breathwork: Quiet the mind so intuition can surface.
Somatic Practices: Movement, dance, or grounding exercises reconnect you to bodily knowing.
Journaling: Ask yourself, "What would I do if I fully trusted myself?"
5. Shift from Fear-Based to Heart-Led Decisions
Before deciding, ask: "Am I making this choice from fear or trust?" Experiment with intuitive decision-making for a week and observe the results.
Learning to Trust Yourself Again
Self-trust is built through action, not just contemplation. Each time you listen to your inner knowing, you reclaim your power.
Every time I practice these exercises, I step a little more into the next-level version of myself. Small step by small step—five-minute practices and single breaths caught between meetings—have all allowed me to expand even further into my next manifestation. And each time I step further into that embodiment, the world around me changes to meet my new identity, what some call a vibrational match.
When I first quit my job to start my business, I found myself still in my work vibration—feeling rushed, staying on an 8-to-5 schedule. I stepped back and asked myself what kind of feeling I wanted every day. I decided on a meditation retreat feeling. So I shifted my days to look like a meditation retreat—starting with a sitting practice, writing about my meditations, and eating focused meals. Over time, these routine shifts started to feel like my everyday life. I was living the meditation retreat.
Then, I met my wife, who had a piece of property that would make a great meditation retreat. As our relationship strengthened, her land became our land—on which to build a retreat. This is how the world shifted around me to give me what I was focused on, finding the least resistant pathway to bring it to me in a way I would accept.
